Samantha Confirmed to Perform at The Oscars
Posted By Jennifer On: February 23 2013 Under: Uncategorized | No Comments

According to The Daily Mail, Samantha Barks will officially be performing at the 85th Annual Academy Awards. Though it’s expected that the entire cast of Tom Hooper’s adaptation of LES MISERABLES will be joining Barks on stage, no others have outright confirmed that they will appear.

The paper previously reported that “It’s still being decided what song will be sung, but Samantha will participate with other cast members such as best actor nominee Hugh Jackman, best supporting actress front-runner Anne Hathaway, heart-throb Eddie Redmayne, Amanda Seyfried and others in one of the rousing crowd numbers – One Day More or Do You Hear The People Sing.

The other idea being discussed is to have a medley with, perhaps, Anne performing an excerpt of I Dreamed A Dream (which she sings with heart-breaking raw emotion in the picture); Samantha coming in with On My Own; Hugh giving us his Who Am I? or Bring Him Home, and so on.”

The 85th Academy Awards will be presented live on Oscar Sunday, February 24, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood and Highland Center, and televised live by the ABC Television Network.

Samantha Barks trained at the Arts Educational school for a year before entering “I’d Do Anything”, the BBC search for the new ‘Nancy’ in Cameron Mackintosh’s “Oliver!” where she finished in the top three. Following “I’d Do Anything” she took part in the workshop for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Love Never Dies”. Samantha made her stage debut as ‘Sally Bowles’ in the national tour of “Cabaret”, before taking the classic role of ‘Aladdin’ in “Aladdin” at the Theatre Royal Windsor. Last year Samantha made her West End debut in the role of ‘Eponine’ in “LES MISERABLES”, and played the role again in the “LES MISERABLES 25th Anniversary Concert” at The O2. Television credits include the lead role of ‘Zoe’ in the Disney TV series “Groove High”.

Helmed by The King’s Speech’s Academy Award-winning director, Tom Hooper, the Working Title/Cameron Mackintosh production stars Hugh Jackman, Oscar winner Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Aaron Tveit, Samantha Barks, with Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen.

Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, LES MISERABLES tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, Sacrifice and redemption-a timeless Testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for Decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.

Samantha is invited to perform at the Oscars after Les Miserables success

She was left devastated when she lost out on a role in the West End production of Oliver! after getting down to the final two on BBC series I’d Do Anything back in 2008.

But now Samantha Barks is having the last laugh, after being invited to perform at the Oscars following her extraordinary success as Eponine in the recent big-screen adaptation of Les Miserables.

The 22-year-old star, who lost out on the role of Nancy to Jodie Prenger in the Andrew Lloyd Webber talent show, will be attending the Academy Awards in Los Angeles on February 24th.

Samantha now has an invite to perform at the Oscars on February 24th and speaking of the honour, Samantha explained: ‘I could never have dreamed this. To play Eponine and sing On My Own alongside Hugh Jackman was just amazing.

‘Hugh and the other cast members, like Russell Crowe and Anne Hathaway, were great to work with and I learned so much from them.’

Prior to being cast in Tom Hooper’s film, Samantha played Eponine in the stage version of Les Miserables in 2010.

Following a strenuous 15 weeks of auditions, Samantha was told she had the role – beating off rumoured competition from Lea Michele, Taylor Swift and Scarlett Johansson.

She said: ‘I had been auditioning for 15 odd weeks, which was gruelling, so to find out I got the part of Eponine was mad.

‘It took me a while to process the news, at first I thought, “Is this a joke?” But thankfully it wasn’t and it was a life changing moment.’

Samantha added: ‘It has been a whirlwind and I’m enjoying the ride. It’s been mad – but I am loving every second of it.’

Samantha stunned at Hollywood success
Posted By Jennifer On: February 03 2013 Under: Uncategorized | No Comments

Samantha Barks is amazed she landed a leading role in Tom Hooper’s ‘Les Miserables’ alongside an all-star cast and still can’t believe how her luck has changed.

Samantha Barks can’t believe she’s in a Hollywood film.

The theatre actress – who was once a contestant on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s reality show, ‘I’d Do Anything’ – stars alongside an all-star cast including Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway and Russell Crowe as Eponine in ‘Les Miserables’, but still can’t fathom how her fortunes have changed since landing the role.

Speaking to OK! magazine, she said: ”I still can’t believe this is my job. I’ve started a diary because so much is happening and I want to remember every detail.

”It was overwhelming. It was a huge gamble to cast me because I didn’t have any screen experience. I remember going on Twitter [when it was announced] and reading all these messages of support. I think I wrote something like, ‘I am just in tears at this time’.”

The 22-year-old beauty was starstruck when she found out she’d star alongside Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter, who play her character’s parents in the Tom Hooper-directed musical.

She recalled: ”When I first heard I was going to be playing their daughter I was like, ‘What?!’ They’re the coolest on-screen parents I could ever have. I think they are incredible.”

Having gotten a taste of the big screen filming ‘Les Mis’, Samantha wants to follow in co-star Hugh’s footsteps, by going from stage to screen permanently.

She added: ”It’s definitely made me hungry for film. The dream is to combine it with musical theatre. It can be done – look at Hugh Jackman. He started on stage and built an incredible career in the theatre and then moved onto film. He is inspiring to me as somebody who made that work.”
